Canada extends permanent residency opportunities to skilled and semi-skilled professionals through various federal and provincial immigration programs, evaluating factors such as work experience, proficiency in English or French, education, and economic potential in Canada.

Remarkably, several of these options don’t necessitate a job offer, allowing applicants to secure permanent resident status before seeking employment in Canada. This category encompasses the following program options

  • Federal Skilled Worker (Express Entry): Professionals with work experience outside Canada may qualify for permanent residency, even without Canadian work experience or an education credential.

  • Canadian Experience Class (Express Entry): Professionals with as little as one year of work experience in Canada may be eligible under this category.
  • Federal Trades Class (Express Entry): Individuals with trades work experience, including construction workers, plumbers, electrical trades workers, carpenters, bakers, cooks, equipment operators, and more, can qualify for permanent residency under this category.
  • Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs): Provincial governments in Canada offer immigration programs aligned with their labor market needs, giving preference to applicants with ties to the province, such as relatives in the province, work experience or education completed there, or the intention to settle permanently.
  • Caregiver Programs: Canada is dedicated to providing pathways to permanent residency for those assisting Canadians in times of need. The Caregiver pilot, launched in June 2019, facilitates home support workers and home child-care providers in obtaining permanent residency. Eligible applicants from outside Canada can also apply for a work permit to fulfill Canadian work experience requirements for PR eligibility.
